Korea (Nov 2015) - restaurants, shopping and culture

Anyeong Haseyo once again......

This time its all about food, restaurant and a little bit about Korean culture show. All of our food arrangements were made by our tour operator and caters for Muslim participants. Although who and how does the verification is unknown we just take it as it is claimed (pasang niat yakin....)

The first meal was lunch pack served during the flight. It was a pre-booked nasi ayam meal ordered by our agent. It was served after about one hour after take-off. The taste and presentation was average but obviously the portion is insufficient for my liking. So we had to order another Mac and cheese with chicken meatball to top it up.

Mac & Cheese with Chicken meatballs

Next on the food list is breakfast at Incheon International Airport. It's located at level 1 and the name of the restaurant is Omelette Kitchen. It a bit like Nasi goreng Pattaya with lots of tomato sauce poured into it.

Getting ready for early dinner

Yummy....

The next day at our apartment near Mount Soeraksan we were served with a buffet breakfast. It was served with bacon??, bread, boiled egg, flakes, soup, salad, rice and chicken (i think hahaha..can't remember because I did feel that good and just took some bread and flakes)

On the way down for breakfast...sejuk and lapar lorr...

For lunch today we were served with grilled fish, kimchi...most popular Korean dish...confirm you will see this dish at every table. They said that Kimchi is somewhat similar to our sambal where its a compulsory dish in every meal. Another dish which interest me is the seaweed. Its soft, light and a bit crunchy.

The grill fish is tasty....so are the sea weeds

Sila bersila ya....
Owh ya.. there's no chairs. So everyone needs to bersila. That's no problem for us kan??????

Makan We fi

In the evening we were treated with another interesting meal which is fried squid served on a hot wok at a small cozy restaurant. It had a stove in the dining and the dinner when served on a cold night is fabulous..

But I keep on getting nudges from my spouse to control my seafood intake for fearing I might be affected with gout.....(pill ada bawak maaa.....)

The next day after visiting Nami Island were brought to have grill chicken for dinner.. It has the charcoal at the middle of the table and a chimney to filter the smoke...its best eaten again with....kimchi

Here's something to digress...

This restaurant has an interesting toilet located just a few steps outside.. For the guys, they have the ladies accompanying while you do your business and for the ladies likewise...hahaha....
Pick your choice guys

Picking my choice..hehehe

Next on the list of restaurant we had was a Morocaan restaurant for breakfast. It's owned by Mr Hamed who has lived in Korea for almost 15 years. What I can see that see cooks, served and clean everything by himself??? can't find any assistant or helper during our visit there...

This was our next taste of Korean Healthfood Restaurant. We were made to understand that we will be served with Chicken Ginseng. It is chicken with rice mixed INTO the chicken and further mixed with some herbs and Ginseng...

And last on our restaurant visit is an Indian Muslim styled restaurant which was named the Taj Palace. It's located in the area of Itaewon . This area is well known with halal food restaurants as there is a big and only Mosque in Korea nearby. The mosque is called Seoul Central Mosque.

Spring rolls, khema, briyani rice, dhal, tandoori chicken

served buffet style

ambil banyak lagi bang..nanti lapar
There's even a Malay restaurant nearby for those who missed home cooked meals..... Siti Sarah

Enough about food.....

The tour at Seoul city also includes compulsory visit to shopping and unique features in Korea. We we brought to ADBO cosmetic shop. Its a very famous cosmetic and skincare product made in Korea and they say a must for the ladies....kita orang ikut sahaja laa...

No camera were allowed in the shop so had to cilok this from the internet

samples of odbo products

Then were brought to the Korean Ginseng Museum. Again, no camera's allowed...so thanks to Mr Google here's some pix

Just to add, the Ginseng promoter was from Gopeng, Ipoh, so all her briefing was conducted in Malay which makes it more friendly. Also there's 3D info of ginseng life span, its nutritious values, cultivation etc etc..... which is quite informative and impressive.

At the end of the visit, its sales promotion. They really go all out to woe visitor to buy their products. Almost all of their sales person can speak Malay...wow..could it be that Malaysian, Brunei, Singapore or Indonesian are their main targets.....

Shopping time...well not exactly. As our schedule was quite packed, there were limited time for free and easy shopping. In fact there was none!!!..the only two times we were allowed for free shopping was at Doota & Myore shopping center for about  one and a half hour

First stop was at Doota shopping mal loacated at Dongdaemun area...its an medium scale shopping mall but all you need to do is head up to the Level 6 where you will find cheap and quality souvenirs.

Guess what...again all the sales person there can speak broken Malay....makcik, pakcik, mak long, you name it they'll recognize

Korean idol....my daughter loves these

Next to the shopping mall there's another mall called Miorea/Miyore/Mioree??? sorry can's recall the name and lost the picture somewhere...Here they sells lots of clothings which is very cheap and reasonable quality.

Next on our shopping list is at Namdaemun market It's like a China town market. Mostly imitation China products and price are reasonably cheap

On our last night at Seoul we were treated with a theater show called the Nanta show.

"NANTA has been running since October 1997 and is the most popular show ever in Korea. It also has achieved outstanding international success having performed on Broadway and toured widely around the US and the rest of the world. It receives rave reviews wherever it performs and quickly sells out.

Without a dialogue, but through rhythmic banging of knives, pots and pans, NANTA (or Cookin’ as it was known in the States) tells the story of four crazy chefs who have been set the impossible task of making a wedding banquet in just one hour. What follows is pure musical mayhem, and they even manage to fit in a love story! The show is based on Korea’s traditional garak (rhythms) of Samulnori (traditional Korean percussion quartet), and can be enjoyed by all the family"

Again no photos..however managed to sneak a few shots before the show starts

Here's a pix outside the theatre...The show lasted for about 90 minutes

Here's a link if you want to see what the fuss is all about...

There you go...quite a long blog on restaurants, food, shops and visits...

Coming up next..another long blog on places of interest....stay tune. As our Korean guide always say "sleeping time".......
