Apa khabar Surabaya pak - Day 2 & night

Continuing from previous posting, just after a quick lunch at 12;30pm we headed to a nearby bus terminal to look for a transport to Malang city. We planned to take an express bus which we estimate will take us about 2.5 hours ride to destination. But after futile search, we only found that the earliest express bus will only reach the terminal at 3:30pm and estimated to reach Malang only at 6:00pm. We would be wasting about 3 hours waiting for the bus to come..no way man...holiday time is precious...

So we decided to take the local bus. Bought the ticket and step straight onto the bus

The bus has no air condition, the seat is non adjustable, as hard as a rock and there's a small opening on the top for the ventilation to come in. Well this is what we like in our expedition, experiencing it as the locals been doing in their everyday life

The bus is now about 60% filled and start heading to Malang. It's considered as a mini-express bus as it will stop every there and then. All walks of people would 'naik turun' this bus every time. Something that we notice is that there are many 'walk-in' peddlers selling all kinds of stuff going around the bus. They would get up at a certain stop and after next 3 or 4 stops they would alight down. They will put their goods on your lap for you evaluate for purchase. If you don't want to buy they will come over and collect their items later. They sell everything from local foods, magazines, books, toys etc.

There's also these 'pengamen' or street performer. They would sing, play guitar or other types of music instruments to entertain you. Once finish they go around the bus to collect any donations. Some of them are really talented. (They could join "Indonesia mencari bakat" show kot...)

Well it was a very interesting experience and through out the journey I did not manage to catch any sleep due to the constant noise, stops, smokes and honking going around. Oh ya, almost towards reaching Malang it rained heavily. So the bus conductor closed all the bus windows and my gosh.....it was so stuffy and hot but we can't do anything much about it  :-(

But at last we managed to reached Malang at about 4:30pm. My wife had made an arrangement for her wonderful friend to pick us up at the bus terminal. She came and brought us straight for late lunch at Waroeng SS.

The Waroeng SS - look at the signage bro. They have 27 types of sambals (hot chillies), 22 lauk (dishes), 11 sayuran (vegies) & 22 types of minuman (drinks)..simply superb

Yummm yummm and they provided the very fresh of freshes fruit drinks

No chairs we provided (kampung style) and later my friend's husband came over to join us...nice meeting you Pak..(very lovely and friendly couple)

The restaurant is medium size, the ambiance is smoothing and the food is delicious...thanks again Bak Tinur

After our hearty lunch, the couple took us to our hotel - Ubud Hotel & Villa. I have made the booking earlier through Agoda.com.

As the name suggest, the hotel has all the Balinese settings. It's not located in the city but towards the outskirt of the city and nearby a housing and shop lot district

The swimming pool....so tempting

We refresh ourselves and had a short rest before our friendly couple came to pick us up again. This time for dinner. (makan lagi...mereka terkenal dengan keramahan kepada tetamu)

Before going out, took some photos of the hotel surroundings.

My kids having a try at their local Bali music instruments

An alley towards the temple area...

Night view of Malang city

Drop by to Masjid Jami'. One of the biggest mosque in Malang. They have sermons and activities which is also broadcast live to Malang radio network.

Masjid Jami' was built in 1875

After a quick stop there, we reached Mie Jogja Pak Karso. Famous for many types of mee (noodles)

Waiting for our food, both my sons are already exhausted. Remember that we woke up 4am today and they only managed to catch some sleep in between (kesiannya...)

The drink counter

After dinner, we drop by to our host's house. It's actually a shop lot with the ground floor open as an Internet cafe and the first floor for occupancy

Can't forget about bikes...this bike belongs to the couple's son

At about mid night we return to the hotel and everybody 'pengsan' (fainted)....what a day...whew

But can't wait for tomorrow as we be visiting more places of interest in Malang

Chiaow...adios
